For many of our customers, it has been a genuine eye-opener how much a change in packaging can make a difference.
If you’re used to traditional export packaging like wood or plywood (for strength), then you’re in for a surprise!
Beyond the impressive facts about stacking capacity and performance of Heavy Duty corrugated cardboard, which can handle loads up to 6 tons, you also get a significantly smaller CO2 footprint. (see the blog post “how to reduce your carbon footprint”)
So why isn’t cardboard just cardboard?
Just like a chef making a stew, the flavor often comes down to the ingredients the chef uses.
The same applies to us. We have many options to influence packaging when it comes to strength.
Virgin paper or recycled paper?
All paper and corrugated cardboard are made up of fibers. The fibers in virgin paper are significantly longer than those in recycled paper. This means the strength is also much greater because the fibers hold together better.
All our grades of HD cardboard are produced using virgin paper, to ensure strength and durability.
Hydrokraftliner or kraftliner?
When you unfold the flaps on a piece of corrugated cardboard, you can see down into the waves. On both sides of the waves, there are two “liners” that hold the waves in place.
In our highest quality products, we use Hydrokraftliner, which makes our packaging weather-resistant. If there is no risk of the product and packaging being stored outside for a short period during its journey, kraftliner is perfectly fine to use.
Corrugated cardboard is like a layer of cake!
When we produce packaging for you, we ask about different elements that reveal details about the product and its journey. We do this because we need to know how the “layer cake”, the packaging, should be constructed. How many waves are needed, which liner to use, whether it will be stacked, and what kind of transport it will go through. (We explain our transport considerations in our ExportGuide, which you can download from our website or request by calling us.)
In this blog post, we’ve attached a video. If you’re still wondering whether cardboard is just paper, the video shows massive metal rings sliding into one of our packages. Did we mention the pallet weighs 1,100 kg when it’s fully loaded and ready to be shipped by sea?
Once you’ve watched the video, we’ll be waiting by the phone.
Let’s take a step together toward a greener packaging future!
